A laptop (pronounced /ˈlæpˌtɒp/), also known as a notebook, is a portable personal computer with a clamshell form factor, typically having a thin LCD or LED computer screen mounted on the inside of the upper lid of the clamshell and an alphanumeric keyboard on the inside of the lower lid.
Etymology
The term "laptop" comes from the ability to use the device while sitting in one's lap, and the term "notebook" comes from its small size, which allows it to be easily carried in a briefcase or backpack.
