Laguna Beach, California (pronunciation: lə-ˈgü-nə ˈbēch, kælɪˈfɔrnjə) is a small coastal city in Orange County, California, known for its picturesque beaches, vibrant arts scene, and Mediterranean climate.

Etymology

The name "Laguna Beach" originates from the Spanish word "laguna," which means "lagoon," and "beach." The city was named for the two lagoons at the mouth of Laguna Canyon.

Geography

Laguna Beach is located in the southwestern part of Orange County. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Crystal Cove State Park to the north, Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park to the east, and Dana Point to the south.

Climate

Laguna Beach has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The city enjoys more than 280 days of sunshine per year.

Culture

Laguna Beach is renowned for its vibrant arts scene. The city is home to the Laguna Playhouse, one of the oldest continuously operating playhouses on the West Coast. The Laguna Art Museum is dedicated to California art and artists. The city also hosts the annual Pageant of the Masters, a unique festival that recreates famous works of art in tableaux vivants, or "living pictures."
