Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania
Lafayette Hill is a small unincorporated community in Whitemarsh Township, located in the southeastern part of the state of Pennsylvania. It is named after the French General Marquis de Lafayette, who stayed there during the American Revolutionary War.
History[edit]
The area of Lafayette Hill was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native American tribe. European settlers arrived in the 17th century, and the community was named after General Lafayette, who used the area as his headquarters during the Revolutionary War. The Battle of Barren Hill took place in the vicinity.
Geography[edit]
Lafayette Hill is located in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania, in the county of Montgomery County. It is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area and is approximately 20 miles northwest of downtown Philadelphia.
Demographics[edit]
As an unincorporated community, Lafayette Hill does not have its own separate demographic statistics. However, it is part of Whitemarsh Township, which as of the 2010 census had a population of approximately 17,000 people.
Education[edit]
Lafayette Hill is served by the Colonial School District. It is home to several schools, including Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and Colonial Elementary School.
Notable people[edit]
Several notable people have lived in Lafayette Hill, including Terrence Howard, an Academy Award-nominated actor, and Bill Cosby, a comedian and actor.
