Kybella

Kybella (pronounced: kai-bella) is a non-surgical treatment for adults with moderate-to-severe fat below the chin, known as submental fat.

Etymology

The term "Kybella" is a brand name derived from the active ingredient in the treatment, deoxycholic acid. The name is a combination of the prefix "ky-" (from Greek, meaning "cell") and "-bella" (from Latin, meaning "beautiful").

Description

Kybella is an injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile. It is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile. Kybella is a synthetic form of Deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

Usage

Kybella is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” It is not known if Kybella is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area or in children less than 18 years of age.
