Kent (mango)

Kent is a popular mango cultivar that originated in Florida, United States. It is known for its sweet, rich flavor and minimal fiber content, making it a preferred choice for fresh consumption and culinary uses.
History[edit]
The Kent mango was first grown in 1945 by Leith D. Kent in Coconut Grove, Florida. It is a cross between the Brooks and Haden mango varieties. The Kent mango quickly gained popularity due to its excellent taste and texture.
Description[edit]
Kent mangoes are typically large, oval-shaped fruits with a green skin that often has a red or yellow blush when ripe. The flesh is deep orange, juicy, and virtually fiberless, making it ideal for eating fresh or using in recipes. The seed is relatively small compared to the size of the fruit.
Cultivation[edit]
Kent mangoes are grown in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. They thrive in well-drained soils and require a warm climate with minimal frost. The trees are medium to large in size and produce fruit from late summer to early winter, depending on the growing region.
Uses[edit]
Kent mangoes are versatile and can be used in a variety of culinary applications. They are commonly eaten fresh, added to salads, smoothies, and desserts, or used in savory dishes such as salsas and chutneys. The rich, sweet flavor of the Kent mango makes it a favorite for both home cooks and professional chefs.
