Kavalan Distillery

Kavalan Distillery is a Taiwanese whisky distillery located in Yilan County, Taiwan. It is owned by the King Car Group and is named after the indigenous Kavalan people, who originally inhabited the area. The distillery is known for its single malt whiskies, which have won numerous international awards.

History

The Kavalan Distillery was established in 2005 by the King Car Group, a company with diverse interests ranging from food and beverage to biotechnology. The distillery was the brainchild of company chairman Tien-Tsai Lee, who had long dreamed of producing a Taiwanese whisky that could compete on the global stage.

Production

Kavalan Distillery uses locally sourced barley and the pure spring water of the nearby Snow Mountain to produce its whiskies. The distillery's unique subtropical climate and the warm, humid air of Yilan County contribute to a faster maturation process, resulting in rich and complex flavours.

Products

Kavalan Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Kavalan Single Malt, Kavalan Concertmaster, and the highly acclaimed Kavalan Solist series. Each product has its own unique flavour profile, ranging from fruity and floral to rich and peaty.

Awards

Kavalan Distillery has received numerous awards for its whiskies. In 2015, the Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique was named the World's Best Single Malt Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards, marking the first time a Taiwanese whisky had received this honour.
