Kansas City University (KCU) (pronounced: /ˈkænzəs ˈsɪti juːˈnɪvərsɪti/), is a private, non-profit, medical school and graduate school located in Kansas City, Missouri. The university is known for its programs in osteopathic medicine, biomedical sciences, and health sciences.
Etymology
The name "Kansas City University" is derived from its location in Kansas City, Missouri. The term "university" is derived from the Latin universitas, meaning "a whole".
History
Kansas City University was founded in 1916 as the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery. It was the first college of osteopathy in the state of Missouri and one of the earliest in the country. The university has since expanded to include a variety of health sciences programs and a second campus in Joplin, Missouri.
Programs
Kansas City University offers a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, as well as Master's degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences. The university also offers a variety of dual degree programs, including a DO/MBA, DO/MPH, and DO/MS in Healthcare Leadership.

Kansas City University is affiliated with several hospitals and healthcare systems in the Kansas City area, providing clinical rotations and residency opportunities for students. These include the Kansas City VA Medical Center, Children's Mercy Hospital, and Truman Medical Centers.
