Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. He is one of the world's best-selling music artists, with sales of over 88 million records. Timberlake is the recipient of numerous awards, including ten Grammy Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, three Brit Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Early life

Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lynn (Bomar) Harless and Charles Randall Timberlake. He grew up in Shelby Forest and was raised as a Baptist. Timberlake's first attempts at a music career were through the television shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club.

Career

1995–2002: NSYNC

In 1995, Timberlake became a member of the boy band NSYNC, which was formed by Lou Pearlman. The group became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1997 and was followed by the successful albums No Strings Attached (2000) and Celebrity (2001).

2002–2004: Solo debut with Justified

Timberlake released his debut solo album, Justified, in 2002. The album included the hit singles "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body". Justified earned Timberlake his first two Grammy Awards.

2004–2007: Acting and FutureSex/LoveSounds

Timberlake took a break from music to focus on his acting career, appearing in films such as Edison (2005) and Alpha Dog (2006). He returned to music with his second studio album, FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album produced the hit singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around... Comes Around".
