Judy Lewent

Judy C. Lewent is an American businesswoman and corporate executive. She is best known for her tenure as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Merck & Co., one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

Early Life and Education

Lewent was born and raised in the United States. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Economics from Goucher College, a private liberal arts college in Baltimore, Maryland. She then went on to earn her Master's degree in Business Administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management, one of the leading business schools in the world.

Career

Lewent began her career at Merck & Co. in 1980, holding various positions in finance and business development. In 1992, she was appointed as the company's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, a position she held until her retirement in 2007. During her tenure, Lewent was instrumental in guiding the company's financial strategy and played a key role in its global expansion.

In addition to her role at Merck, Lewent has served on the boards of several other major corporations, including Motorola Solutions, GlaxoSmithKline, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. She has also been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the MIT Corporation, the governing body of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Recognition

Lewent's contributions to the business and pharmaceutical industries have been widely recognized. She has been named to Forbes' list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women multiple times and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006.

Personal Life

Lewent is married to Stuart Weitzman, a renowned American fashion designer and entrepreneur known for his eponymous shoe company.
