Johnnycake (pronunciation: "john-ee-cake", also called journey cake, shawnee cake or johnny bread) is a cornmeal flatbread. The food originates and is popular in the cuisines of the North American and Caribbean regions.

The term "johnnycake" (also jonnycake, jonnycake, jonnycake) is of American English origin. It is derived from "journey cake", a cake made for long trips.
Ingredients
Johnnycake is made out of cornmeal, hot water or milk, and salt. Sometimes, it is sweetened with sugar or molasses. In the Caribbean, it is often fried in oil, and in the United States, it is either fried or baked.
