American actor and producer



John Christopher Depp II (born June 9, 1963) is an American actor, producer, and musician. He is the recipient of multiple accolades, including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award, in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards and two BAFTA Awards.

Early life

Johnny Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on June 9, 1963, to parents Betty Sue Palmer (née Wells) and John Christopher Depp. He has three older siblings. Depp's family moved frequently during his childhood, eventually settling in Miramar, Florida. He dropped out of Miramar High School at the age of 16 to pursue a career in music.

Career

1980s: Early roles and breakthrough

Depp's first major role was in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. He gained further recognition with his role in the television series 21 Jump Street (1987–1990), which made him a teen idol.

1990s: Critical and commercial success

In the 1990s, Depp collaborated with director Tim Burton on several films, including Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (1994), and Sleepy Hollow (1999). He also starred in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), Donnie Brasco (1997), and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998).

2000s: Pirates of the Caribbean and continued success

Depp achieved significant commercial success with his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003). He reprised the role in several sequels, including Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).
