American actor, producer, and director



Joseph Anthony Mantegna (born November 13, 1947) is an American actor, producer, and director. He has had a long and varied career in film, television, and theater.

Early life

Mantegna was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Italian-American parents. He attended Morton College and later graduated from the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago (now at DePaul University).

Career

Mantegna made his acting debut in the 1969 production of Hair. He gained prominence for his role in the play Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet, for which he won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play in 1984.

Film

Mantegna has appeared in numerous films, including The Godfather Part III (1990), Bugsy (1991), and Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993). He is also known for his role in Baby's Day Out (1994) and Airheads (1994).

Television

On television, Mantegna is best known for his role as FBI Special Agent David Rossi on the CBS series Criminal Minds, a role he has played since 2007. He has also provided the voice for the character Fat Tony on the animated series The Simpsons.

Theater

In addition to his work in film and television, Mantegna has had a successful career in theater. He has appeared in numerous productions, including Speed-the-Plow and A Life in the Theatre.

Personal life

Mantegna has been married to Arlene Vrhel since 1975, and they have two daughters. He is an avid supporter of various charities and has been involved in numerous philanthropic activities.
