From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

JoAnn Trejo is an American biochemist and cell biologist known for her significant contributions to the field of pharmacology. She is currently serving as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences Faculty Affairs at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

Early Life and Education

JoAnn Trejo was born and raised in the United States. She pursued her undergraduate studies in biology at the University of Texas at El Paso, where she developed a keen interest in biochemistry and cell biology. She then went on to earn her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Career

After completing her Ph.D., Trejo worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) where she has made significant contributions to the field of pharmacology.

At UCSD, Trejo's research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are a large family of proteins that play a key role in many physiological processes. Her work has led to the discovery of new pathways and mechanisms of GPCR signaling, which has implications for the development of new drugs and therapies.

In addition to her research, Trejo is also heavily involved in faculty affairs at UCSD. As the Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences Faculty Affairs, she is responsible for overseeing faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement.

Awards and Honors

Throughout her career, Trejo has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to biochemistry and pharmacology. These include the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Award for Exemplary Contributions to Education and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow.
