James Richard "Jim" Cantalupo (November 14, 1943 – April 19, 2004) was an American businessman who served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDonald's Corporation. He played a significant role in the global expansion and revitalization of the company during his tenure.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Jim Cantalupo was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and grew up in the Chicago area. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a degree in accounting. His education laid the foundation for his future career in business and finance.

Career at McDonald's[edit]

Cantalupo joined McDonald's in 1974 as the Controller of McDonald's International. Over the years, he held various positions within the company, including President and CEO of McDonald's International, where he was instrumental in expanding the brand into new markets around the world.

In 2002, Cantalupo came out of retirement to become the CEO of McDonald's Corporation. During his leadership, he focused on revitalizing the brand by improving food quality, customer service, and restaurant operations. He introduced the "Plan to Win" strategy, which emphasized "being better, not just bigger."

Legacy[edit]

Jim Cantalupo's leadership was marked by a commitment to innovation and quality. His "Plan to Win" strategy helped McDonald's regain its competitive edge and improve its financial performance. Cantalupo's sudden death in 2004 was a significant loss to the company and the business community.
