Jeff Gordon (born August 4, 1971) is a retired American professional stock car racing driver, currently an announcer for Fox NASCAR, and a top executive for Hendrick Motorsports. He is regarded as one of the most influential drivers in the history of NASCAR and has been credited with helping the sport reach mainstream popularity.
Early Life
Jeff Gordon was born in Vallejo, California. He began racing quarter midgets at the age of five and won his first race at the age of six. By the age of 13, Gordon had won multiple national championships and was racing sprint cars.
NASCAR Career
Gordon's NASCAR career began in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (then known as the Busch Series) in 1990. He quickly moved up to the NASCAR Cup Series in 1992, driving for Hendrick Motorsports.
Championships
Jeff Gordon won his first NASCAR Cup Series championship in 1995. He went on to win three more championships in 1997, 1998, and 2001. Gordon's success on the track earned him the nickname "Wonder Boy" and later "Rainbow Warrior" due to his colorful car paint schemes.
