Jacob Levy Moreno (Template:IPA-en; born Iacob Levy; April 18, 1889 – May 14, 1974) was a Romanian-American psychiatrist, psychosociologist, and educator, who is notable for developing the theory and practice of psychodrama, and for his work on group psychotherapy, sociometry, and the sociodrama method.
Etymology
The name "Jacob Levy Moreno" is of Hebrew origin. "Jacob" is derived from the Hebrew name "Yaakov", which means "supplanter" or "holder of the heel". "Levy" is a variant of "Levi", which means "joined" or "attached" in Hebrew. "Moreno" is a Spanish surname meaning "dark or brown".
