The Jacksonville Jaguars are a professional American football team based in Jacksonville, Florida. The team was established in 1993 and began play in 1995 as an expansion team alongside the Carolina Panthers.

History

The Jacksonville Jaguars were awarded as an expansion franchise to the city of Jacksonville on November 30, 1993. The team was founded by Wayne Weaver, who served as the majority owner until 2011 when the franchise was sold to Shahid Khan.

The Jaguars' inaugural season was in 1995, and they played their home games at what was then known as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, now called TIAA Bank Field.
