Internet addiction disorder
Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), also known as Compulsive Internet Use (CIU), Problematic Internet Use (PIU), or Pathological Internet Use (PIU), is a mental health disorder characterized by excessive or poorly controlled preoccupations, urges, or behaviors regarding computer use and internet access that lead to impairment or distress.

Etymology
The term "Internet Addiction Disorder" was coined by Dr. Ivan Goldberg in 1995 for a satirical essay. However, the concept has since been taken seriously as internet use has become pervasive.
