The International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) is a global organization dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and research in the field of sexual medicine. It aims to promote the highest standards of care in the diagnosis and treatment of sexual health issues.

History

The ISSM was founded in 1978 as the International Society for Impotence Research (ISIR). The organization was established to address the growing need for research and education in the field of erectile dysfunction and other sexual health issues. In 1999, the society was renamed to the International Society for Sexual and Impotence Research (ISSIR) to reflect a broader focus. Finally, in 2004, it adopted its current name, the International Society for Sexual Medicine, to encompass all aspects of sexual health and medicine.
