International Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a non-governmental sports organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was founded on 23 June 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and Demetrios Vikelas to revive the ancient Olympic Games. The IOC is the authority responsible for organizing the modern Olympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games, held in summer and winter, every four years.
History[edit]
The IOC was established in 1894 with the aim of promoting Olympism and leading the Olympic Movement. The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896. Since then, the IOC has grown to include 105 active members and 45 honorary members, representing various countries and regions around the world.
Structure[edit]
The IOC is composed of:
- The Session, which is the general meeting of the members of the IOC.
- The Executive Board, which consists of the President, four Vice-Presidents, and ten other members.
- The President, who is elected by the IOC members for an eight-year term, renewable once for four years.

- Leading the fight against doping and corruption in sports.
Olympic Charter[edit]
The Olympic Charter is the codification of the fundamental principles, rules, and by-laws adopted by the IOC. It governs the organization, action, and operation of the Olympic Movement and sets forth the conditions for the celebration of the Olympic Games.
Membership[edit]
Membership in the IOC is by invitation only and is based on the candidate's contribution to the Olympic Movement. Members are representatives of the IOC in their respective countries, not delegates of their countries within the IOC.
Criticism and Controversies[edit]
The IOC has faced criticism and controversies over issues such as:
- The selection process for host cities, which has been accused of corruption and lack of transparency.
