International Beer Day
International Beer Day is a global celebration of beer, taking place in pubs, breweries, and backyards all over the world — it's a day for beer lovers everywhere to raise a toast to our brewers and bartenders and rejoice in the greatness of beer!
History
International Beer Day was founded in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, by Jesse Avshalomov. Initially, it was celebrated on August 5th, but in 2012, the event was moved to the first Friday of August. The purpose of the day is to gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer, to celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer, and to unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.
Celebration
Celebrations on International Beer Day are as varied as the participants. Many people attend social gatherings, where they partake in tasting sessions of both domestic and international brews. Pubs and breweries often host events, including discounts on beer, quizzes, and themed parties. It's also common for people to gift each other beers, especially ones from other countries, to foster a global appreciation of beer. Social media plays a significant role in the celebration, with participants posting pictures, sharing their experiences, and using hashtags to connect with fellow beer enthusiasts worldwide.
Objectives
The founders of International Beer Day aimed to accomplish three main goals: 1. To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer. 2. To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer. 3. To unite the world under the banner of beer by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures on this one remarkable day.
Significance
International Beer Day has gained significant popularity since its inception, with events now taking place in over 200 cities globally. It serves not only as a day for beer aficionados to indulge in their favorite drinks but also as an opportunity to explore the diversity of beer cultures around the world. The day emphasizes the art and craft of brewing and encourages people to explore a wide variety of beer offerings beyond their local and national favorites.
