Informatics

Informatics (/ɪnfərˈmætɪks/) is the science of how to use data, information and knowledge to improve human health and the delivery of healthcare services. The term is derived from the French word "informatique", which was coined in 1962 and is a portmanteau of the words "information" and "automatic".

Informatics is an interdisciplinary field that involves the study and application of information technology to the collection, management, analysis, and use of data, information, and knowledge in health care. It is closely related to the fields of Health Informatics, Bioinformatics, Clinical Informatics, Public Health Informatics, and Pharmacy Informatics, among others.

Health Informatics

Health Informatics is a discipline at the intersection of information science, computer science, and health care. It deals with the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in health and biomedicine.

Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data, particularly when the data sets are large and complex.

Clinical Informatics

Clinical Informatics is the application of informatics and information technology to deliver healthcare services. It is also referred to as applied clinical informatics and operational informatics.

Public Health Informatics

Public Health Informatics has been defined as the systematic application of information and computer science and technology to public health practice, research, and learning.

Pharmacy Informatics

Pharmacy Informatics is defined as the use and integration of data, information, knowledge, technology, and automation in the medication-use process.
