Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), commonly known as IndianOil, is one of India's largest state-owned oil and gas companies. It is under the ownership of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. IndianOil plays a significant role in fueling the development of the nation and is ranked as one of the largest corporations in India, as well as a notable player in the global energy market.
History[edit]
Indian Oil Corporation was established on 1 June 1959 through the merger of Indian Refineries Ltd. and Indian Oil Company Ltd. The objective was to develop an integrated national energy provider. Over the decades, IndianOil has expanded its operations across the entire hydrocarbon value chain - from refining, pipeline transportation, and marketing of petroleum products to exploration & production of crude oil & gas, marketing of natural gas, and petrochemicals.
Operations[edit]
IndianOil operates a vast network of refineries, pipelines, and marketing and petrochemicals units. It owns and operates 11 of India's 23 refineries, with a combined refining capacity of over 80 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA). The company's extensive pipeline network spans thousands of kilometers, facilitating the transportation of crude oil to refineries and finished products to high-demand centers.
