Indian Institute of Science
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a premier public research university located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Established in 1909 with active support from Jamsetji Tata and the Government of India, IISc is renowned for its advanced research and education in science, engineering, design, and management.
History
The idea of establishing IISc was conceived by Jamsetji Tata in the late 19th century. Tata's vision was to create an institution that would contribute to the development of India through scientific research and education. The institute was formally established in 1909, with the support of the Maharaja of Mysore, Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, and the Government of India.
