Indian Medicine

Indian Medicine (pronunciation: /ˈɪndiən ˈmɛdɪsɪn/), also known as Ayurveda, is a system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent. The term "Indian Medicine" is derived from the Sanskrit words 'Ayu' meaning life and 'Veda' meaning knowledge or science. Thus, Ayurveda translates to 'the science of life'.

History

The history of Indian Medicine can be traced back to the Vedic period, where it was first recorded in the Vedas, the ancient religious and philosophical texts of India. The Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita are two early texts of Ayurveda that provide detailed information about the practice of this ancient system of medicine.

Principles

Indian Medicine is based on the principles of Tridosha (three doshas) - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas are believed to be the three primary forces that govern the functioning of the body and mind.

Practices

The practices of Indian Medicine include herbal medicine, dietary therapy, physical therapy, and spiritual healing. These practices aim to maintain or restore the balance of the doshas, thereby promoting health and preventing disease.
