immunocytochemistry - (pronounced) (IH-myoo-noh-SY-toh-KEH-mih-stree) A laboratory method that uses antibodies to test a sample of cells for specific antigens (markers). The antibodies are usually coupled to an enzyme or a fluorescent dye. After the antibodies bind to the antigen in the cell sample, the enzyme or dye becomes activated and the antigen can then be seen under a microscope. Immunocytochemistry is used to diagnose diseases such as cancer. It can also be used to tell the difference between different types of cancer
