imaging test - (pronounced) (IH-muh-jing. . . ) A type of test that takes detailed pictures of areas in the body. Various forms of energy such as X-rays (high-energy radiation), ultrasound (high-energy sound waves), radio waves and radioactive substances are used in imaging processes. They can be used to diagnose diseases, plan treatment, or find out how well treatment is working. Examples of imaging methods are computed tomography (CT), mammography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine examinations. Also called an imaging method
