IPhone 7

iPhone 7 is a smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc.. It was announced on September 7, 2016, as the successor to the iPhone 6S, and was released on September 16, 2016. The iPhone 7 significantly improved upon the hardware specifications and features of its predecessor, introducing a new water and dust resistance rating of IP67, a static home button designed to be durable and pressure sensitive, and removed the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Design[edit]
The design of the iPhone 7 retains the overall shape of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, but introduces notable changes. It comes in a range of colors, including new options like matte black and jet black, in addition to the existing silver, gold, and rose gold. The device is water and dust resistant, a first for the iPhone series, which allows it to be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
Hardware[edit]
The iPhone 7 features the Apple A10 Fusion chip, a 64-bit quad-core processor that Apple claimed was 40% faster than the processor in the iPhone 6S. It includes two high-performance cores for demanding tasks and two high-efficiency cores for less intensive applications. The device also introduced a new graphics processing unit (GPU), which was up to 50% faster than its predecessor.
The removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack was a controversial decision. Apple's rationale was that it freed up space for other components and enabled the device to have better water resistance. The iPhone 7 ships with EarPods that connect through the Lightning port and an adapter for traditional headphone jacks.
Camera[edit]
The iPhone 7 features a 12-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, a larger ƒ/1.8 aperture, and a six-element lens for improved low-light photography. The front-facing camera was upgraded to a 7-megapixel sensor. The iPhone 7 Plus model includes a dual-camera system, enabling 2x optical zoom and a "Portrait" mode for depth-of-field effects.
Software[edit]
The device originally shipped with iOS 10, which introduced a redesigned lock screen, new messaging features, and a revamped photos app with facial recognition. Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, was also significantly updated to integrate with third-party apps.
Reception[edit]
The iPhone 7 received generally positive reviews, with critics praising its camera, processor performance, and water resistance. However, the removal of the headphone jack was criticized by some users and reviewers. The introduction of the jet black color option was well-received, though it was noted for being more susceptible to fingerprints and scratches.
Sales[edit]
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus set a new record for first-weekend sales, indicating strong consumer demand for the new devices. Despite the controversy over the headphone jack, the iPhone 7 maintained strong sales performance throughout its lifecycle.
Successor[edit]
The iPhone 7 was succeeded by the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in 2017, which introduced wireless charging, an OLED screen for the iPhone X, and a new glass and aluminum design.
