Hydrochloric Acid (pronounced: hi-droh-klor-ik as-id) is a strong, corrosive acid that is a clear, colorless solution of hydrogen chloride (Hydrogen Chloride) in water. It is used in many industrial processes and is also naturally produced in the human stomach to aid in digestion.

Etymology

The term "Hydrochloric Acid" comes from the chemical compound's formula, HCl. "Hydro" is derived from the Greek word 'hydor' meaning water, and "chloric" is derived from the Greek word 'chloros' meaning greenish-yellow, which is the color of chlorine gas.
