Hungry

Hungry (/ˈhʌŋɡri/), derived from the Old English hungrig, is a term used to describe the sensation of needing to eat. It is a basic human sensation and can be caused by a variety of factors, including the body's need for nutrients, the amount of time since the last meal, and psychological factors.

Etymology

The term "hungry" comes from the Old English hungrig, which is related to the German hungrig and the Dutch hongerig. All these words share a common root in the Proto-Germanic *hungraz, which is believed to be derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *kenk- (to burn, starve).
