Hominina (/hɒmɪˈnaɪnə/), also known as African hominins, is a subtribe of the tribe Hominini. The Hominina lineage includes the genus Homo, which includes modern humans and their close relatives, and the genus Pan, which includes the chimpanzees and bonobos.

Etymology

The term "Hominina" is derived from the Latin hominis, meaning "of man". It was first used in this context by Elwyn Simons and David Pilbeam in 1965.
