Healthcare industry

The Healthcare industry (pronounced: /ˈhelθkeər ˈɪndəstri/) is an aggregation and integration of sectors within the economic system that provides goods and services to treat patients with curative, preventive, rehabilitative, and palliative care. It includes the generation and commercialization of goods and services lending themselves to maintaining and re-establishing health.

Etymology

The term "healthcare" has been derived from the words "health" and "care". "Health" comes from the Old English word "hǣlth", which has its roots in Old Norse "heill", meaning "whole" or "being well". "Care" comes from the Old English word "caru" or "care", which means "grief, anxiety, occupation", hence, healthcare essentially means taking care of one's well-being.
