Harold Wood Hospital

Harold Wood Hospital was a health facility located in Gubbins Lane, Harold Wood, in the London Borough of Havering, England. It was managed by the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

History

The hospital, which was designed by Young & Hall as a workhouse and infirmary, opened as the Romford Union Workhouse in November 1838. A new infirmary was built at the south of the site in 1893. The facility joined the National Health Service as Harold Wood Hospital in 1948. After services had transferred to Queen's Hospital and to King George Hospital, Harold Wood Hospital closed in 2006. The site was subsequently redeveloped for residential use by Redrow Homes.

Services

Harold Wood Hospital provided a range of medical services to the local community. These included emergency care, surgical procedures, and outpatient appointments. The hospital was also home to several specialist departments, such as cardiology, radiology, and orthopedics.

Closure and Redevelopment

The closure of Harold Wood Hospital was part of a wider plan to consolidate healthcare services in the area. The site has since been redeveloped for residential use, with a mix of apartments and houses now standing where the hospital once did.
