HLA-DQ1
HLA-DQ1 is a serotype group within the HLA-DQ serotype system, part of the HLA system. The HLA-DQ1 serotype group is determined by the antibody recognition of β1 subset of DQ β-chains. The β-chain of HLA-DQ is encoded by the HLA-DQB1 gene, and HLA-DQ1 is split into two subtypes: DQ1.1 and DQ1.2.
Function[edit]
HLA-DQ1 is a cell surface receptor protein found on antigen presenting cells. It plays a crucial role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from extracellular proteins. DQ1 molecules are heterodimers, consisting of a DQA1 and DQB1 chain, and are associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases.
Genetic Linkage[edit]
HLA-DQ1 is genetically linked to other HLA serotypes, including HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ3. This linkage is due to the location of these genes on the same chromosome. The genetic linkage of HLA-DQ1 to other HLA serotypes is important in the study of disease association.
Disease Association[edit]
HLA-DQ1 has been associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases, including celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and type 1 diabetes. The mechanism of this association is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve the presentation of self-peptides to T cells, leading to an autoimmune response.
