Guilty Crown
Guilty Crown is a Japanese anime television series produced by Production I.G which aired on Fuji TV's noitaminA program block from October 2011 to March 2012. The series is directed by Tetsurō Araki, with the screenplay written by Hiroyuki Yoshino, and original character designs by Redjuice.
Plot
The story is set in 2039, ten years after the outbreak of the "Apocalypse Virus," an event known as the "Lost Christmas." The series follows Shu Ouma, a high school student who inadvertently obtains a rare and powerful ability called the "Power of the Kings" that allows him to draw out items called "Voids" from other people. Shu becomes involved with a resistance group called Funeral Parlor, which aims to liberate Japan from the control of a quasi-governmental organization known as the GHQ.
Characters
- Shu Ouma - The protagonist who gains the "Power of the Kings."
- Inori Yuzuriha - A key member of Funeral Parlor and the lead singer of the internet group Egoist.
- Gai Tsutsugami - The charismatic leader of Funeral Parlor.
- Ayase Shinomiya - A wheelchair-bound member of Funeral Parlor who pilots the Endlave mecha.
- Tsugumi - A hacker and member of Funeral Parlor.
- Yahiro Samukawa - Shu's friend who becomes entangled in the conflict.
- Mana Ouma - Shu's older sister, who plays a crucial role in the series' backstory.
Production
The series was produced by Production I.G, known for their work on Ghost in the Shell and Psycho-Pass. The music was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, and the opening theme songs were performed by Supercell featuring Koeda.
Reception
Guilty Crown received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. While the animation quality and soundtrack were praised, the series was criticized for its plot and character development. Despite this, it has maintained a dedicated fanbase and has been influential in the anime community.

The anime consists of 22 episodes and was broadcast on Fuji TV's noitaminA block. It has been licensed by Funimation for North American distribution.
Manga
A manga adaptation illustrated by Shion Mizuki was serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan from November 2011 to December 2013.
Light Novels
Several light novels based on the series have been published, expanding on the story and characters.
Video Games
A visual novel adaptation for the PlayStation Portable was released in 2012.
