Greenland

Greenland (pronunciation: /ˈɡriːn.lænd/) is the world's largest island, located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Etymology

The name "Greenland" comes from Scandinavian settlers. In the Norse language, the island was called Grœnland which directly translates to "Greenland". The settlers chose this name in hopes that it would attract more people to settle there.

Geography

Greenland is the world's largest island that is not a continent. It is in the northeastern part of North America, mostly within the Arctic Circle. The island has an Arctic climate with average temperatures that do not exceed 10° C (50° F) in the warmest summer months. The northern part of the island is covered with a permanent ice sheet.

Health Care

Health care in Greenland is a responsibility of the Greenlandic health system, which provides free care for all residents. The system is funded by taxes and administered by the Government of Greenland. The health care system includes hospitals, health clinics, and a system of medical evacuation (Medevac) aircraft.
