Goody's Powder

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Goody's Powder is an over-the-counter pharmaceutical product primarily used for the relief of minor aches and pains. It is a product of Prestige Brands, an American company that markets and distributes over-the-counter healthcare and household cleaning products.

History

Goody's Powder was first introduced in 1932 by A. Thaddeus "Thad" Jones, a pharmacist in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The product was named after Jones' son, who was nicknamed "Goody". The product quickly gained popularity in the southern United States due to its fast-acting formula.

Composition

Goody's Powder is a combination of aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffeine. The aspirin and acetaminophen act as pain relievers, while the caffeine helps to increase the effectiveness of these two ingredients.

Usage

Goody's Powder is typically used for the relief of headaches, body aches, and minor pain associated with arthritis. It is also used to reduce fever and to relieve mild to moderate pain from conditions such as muscle aches, toothaches, common cold, and headaches.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Goody's Powder can cause side effects. Common side effects include upset stomach, heartburn, and dizziness. More serious side effects can include stomach bleeding, difficulty hearing, and allergic reactions.

Precautions

Before using Goody's Powder, individuals should consult with a healthcare professional. It is especially important for individuals with a history of stomach ulcers, high blood pressure, liver disease, or heart disease to seek medical advice before using this product.
