Godiva Chocolatier was established in 1926 in Brussels, Belgium by Joseph Draps. Draps opened his first shop in the Grand Place in Brussels, and the company quickly gained a reputation for its premium chocolates. The brand was named after the legendary Lady Godiva, who is said to have ridden naked through the streets of Coventry to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation imposed by her husband on his tenants.
In 1968, Godiva was appointed the official chocolatier to the Royal Court of Belgium. This prestigious recognition further solidified the brand's reputation for quality and luxury.
