Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania

Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,832. The community is part of the Boyertown Area School District.

Geography

Gilbertsville is located at 40°19′39″N 75°37′14″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.2 square miles, all of it land. The community is situated in the southeastern part of the state, near the city of Philadelphia.

History

The community was named after the Gilbert family, who were early settlers in the area. The Gilbertsville Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,832 people, 1,382 households, and 1,124 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,510.0 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.54% White, 1.35% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.91% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.35% of the population.

Education

Gilbertsville is served by the Boyertown Area School District. Schools in the district include Boyertown Area Senior High, Boyertown Area Junior High West, and Gilbertsville Elementary School.

Transportation

The main roads in Gilbertsville are Pennsylvania Route 73 and Pennsylvania Route 100. The nearest airport is Reading Regional Airport, located approximately 20 miles to the west.
