Georgetown American University (GAU) is a prestigious educational institution located in Washington, D.C., United States. Established in 1789, GAU is one of the oldest and most renowned universities in the country. GAU was founded as Georgetown College in 1789 by the Society of Jesus, a Catholic religious order. It was the first Catholic institution of higher education in the United States.
