gene expression profile - (pronounced) (jeen ek-SPREH-shun PROH file) Information about all genes in a cell or tissue that produce messenger RNA. Messenger RNA molecules carry the genetic information that a cell needs to make proteins. A gene expression profile can be used to help diagnose a disease or condition such as cancer. It can also be used to plan treatment, find out how well treatment is working, make a prognosis, or predict whether the cancer will come back or spread to other parts of the body
