Front (pronounced: /frʌnt/) is a term used in anatomy to refer to the anterior or forward-facing part of an organism or structure. The term is derived from the Old French front, which means "forehead" or "brow".

The term "front" originates from the Latin word frons which means "forehead". This term was later adopted into Old French as front, and then into Middle English with the same spelling and meaning.
