Footloose
Footloose is a 1984 American musical drama film directed by Herbert Ross. The screenplay was written by Dean Pitchford, who also co-wrote the film's soundtrack with Kenny Loggins. The film stars Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Chris Penn, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Plot[edit]
The story follows Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), a teenager from Chicago who moves to the small town of Bomont to live with his mother’s relatives. Ren is shocked to discover that the town has banned dancing and rock music. The ban was instituted by the local preacher, Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow), after a tragic accident claimed the lives of four teenagers returning from a dance.
Ren challenges the ban and, with the help of his new friends, including the preacher's rebellious daughter Ariel Moore (Lori Singer) and his best friend Willard Hewitt (Chris Penn), he sets out to organize a dance. The film culminates in a dramatic showdown at a town council meeting where Ren makes an impassioned plea for the right to dance.
