Fishkeeping (pronunciation: /ˈfɪʃkiːpɪŋ/) is the hobby of maintaining an aquarium, usually constructed of glass or high-strength acrylic. Fishkeeping is a popular hobby, practiced by aquarists, and is also a branch of ichthyology.
Etymology
The term "fishkeeping" is derived from the act of keeping fish in aquariums or ponds. The word "fish" comes from the Old English "fisc", and "keeping" is from the Old English "cēpan", meaning to keep or hold.
