Summary

Description
English: A sun pillar seen when the sun is still behind the horizon. Even more rare is the lake-reflection effect, which is shown on this occasion (also false because no water is between).

The photo was taken at 44°18'54.33"N / 11°19'50.32"E on Oct 22 2008 between 7:17 and 7:24 AM (camera time settings were not correct). The expected time for sunrise at this location on that day was 7:34 AM, so the phenomenon anticipated was at least 10 minutes before the real sunrise. The mountain on the left is Monte delle Formiche.

(Note: Not a parhelion.)
