old. Was two weeks prematurely born. She was thesecond child. The first child died of diphtheria; it was also prematurely born, anddied when its mother was four months pregnant with the presrmt baby. The motherliad a normal pregnan(;y, l)ut was greatly troubled with headaches and dizziness, andsuffered mentally over the loss of the first child. The liahy.—When the baby was six weeks old the mother first noticed tliat itbreathed with difficulty. It had been vomiting continuously. Diarrha^a has existedfor ten weeks. There is an occasional cough. Since two weeks the baby appearscolicky and cries with apparent pain. Htat. Prws.—A pale, very anaemic looking child, with large fontanel, somewhatdepressed, the size of a silver quarter. The Eyes.—There was a slight exophthalmus. The nose, somewhat depressed.Slight coryza. The Heart.—The area of dullness extends from the right side to the left borderof the sternum, corresponding to the lower border of the third rib. The apex is FRONT
