Fantom

Fantom is a blockchain platform designed to provide fast, secure, and scalable solutions for decentralized applications (dApps) and digital assets. It aims to overcome the limitations of previous blockchain platforms by utilizing a novel consensus mechanism known as Lachesis Protocol.
Overview[edit]
Fantom was founded in 2018 by Dr. Ahn Byung Ik, a South Korean computer scientist. The platform's primary goal is to offer high performance and low-cost transactions, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including DeFi (Decentralized Finance), supply chain management, and smart cities.
Technology[edit]
Fantom's core technology is based on the Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) structure, which allows for asynchronous processing of transactions. This structure is different from traditional blockchain architectures, which process transactions sequentially. The Lachesis Protocol, Fantom's consensus algorithm, ensures that transactions are confirmed in a matter of seconds, providing near-instant finality.
Lachesis Protocol[edit]
The Lachesis Protocol is a Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus mechanism that allows for high throughput and low latency. It operates on a leaderless model, meaning there is no single point of failure, which enhances the security and decentralization of the network.
Fantom Opera[edit]
Fantom Opera is the mainnet deployment of the Fantom network. It is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing developers to port their existing Ethereum-based dApps to Fantom with minimal modifications. This compatibility also means that Fantom supports popular Ethereum tools like MetaMask and Remix.
Fantom Token (FTM)[edit]
The native token of the Fantom network is FTM. It is used for various purposes within the ecosystem, including transaction fees, staking, and governance. FTM can be staked to secure the network, and stakers are rewarded with additional FTM tokens.
Use Cases[edit]
Fantom's high performance and low transaction costs make it suitable for a variety of use cases:
- DeFi: Fantom supports a wide range of DeFi applications, including decentralized exchanges (DEXs), lending platforms, and yield farming.
- Supply Chain Management: The platform can be used to track the movement of goods and verify the authenticity of products.
- Smart Cities: Fantom's technology can be integrated into smart city infrastructure to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Partnerships and Collaborations[edit]
Fantom has established several partnerships with organizations and governments to promote the adoption of its technology. These collaborations aim to leverage Fantom's capabilities in various sectors, including finance, healthcare, and public administration.
