History

Pharmacology

Fantofarone is a 1,4-benzodiazepine derivative. This class of drugs is known for their sedative, anxiolytic, muscle relaxant, and anticonvulsant properties. However, Fantofarone was developed specifically for its cardiovascular effects. It acts as a calcium channel blocker, which means it inhibits the movement of calcium ions into cells.
