The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Khartoum traces its origins back to the establishment of the Kitchener School of Medicine in 1924. The school was named after Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener, who played a significant role in the British colonial administration of Sudan. The Kitchener School of Medicine was the first medical school in Sudan and was established to address the need for trained medical professionals in the region.
In 1951, the Kitchener School of Medicine became part of the newly established University of Khartoum, and it was renamed the Faculty of Medicine. Since then, the faculty has grown significantly, expanding its programs and facilities to accommodate a larger number of students and to offer a wider range of medical specializations.
