FV-100
FV-100
FV-100 (pronounced: ef-vee-one-hundred) is an antiviral drug that was developed for the treatment of herpes zoster, also known as shingles.
Etymology
The term "FV-100" is a proprietary name given by the drug's developer, ContraVir Pharmaceuticals. The "FV" stands for "Fast Virostatic", indicating the drug's rapid antiviral action, and "100" is a numerical identifier.
Pharmacology
FV-100 is a potent and selective inhibitor of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the virus that causes shingles. It works by inhibiting the replication of the virus, thereby reducing the severity and duration of shingles symptoms.
Clinical Trials
FV-100 has undergone Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of shingles. The results showed that the drug was well-tolerated and effective in reducing the severity and duration of shingles symptoms, as well as the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia, a common complication of shingles.
